SodaStream

WHAT MAKES A PRODUCT SIMPLY GENIUS?

A beautiful design. Simplicity. Convenience. And the fact that every time you use it, you are making the planet a cleaner place to live.

Enjoy the freedom of making your own sparkling drinks in just seconds, with the SodaStream Source home soda maker. Powered by a reusable CO2 carbonator, the refined mechanics of the SodaStream Source make the entire top surface responsive to touch to quickly transform water into perfectly customized sparkling drinks. An LED display indicates three levels of fizziness for precise carbonation with every use, while a new snap-lock bottle mechanism makes the Source even easier to use.

NO PLUG. CO2-POWERED

It may come as a surprise that the SodaStream soda makers do not need any batteries or electricity to operate. They are powered solely by the compressed gas carbonator that comes in the starter kit. A starter carbonator will prepare 6L of soda – enough to start you off with the system. As soon as the starter carbonator runs out, visit one of the 15,000 stores to exchange it for a full 60L one (visit www.sodastreamusa.com to find the store nearest to you. And do not worry, most of the big name retailers are already carrying them). Make sure you use the MAIL IN REBATE INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL BOX to get the first 60L cylinder for free.

CO2 CYLINDER INSTALLATION

To get started, remove the cap from the CO2 carbonator that came with your soda maker. Open the back of the Source home soda maker by inserting your index finger into the hole in the back cover panel and pulling firmly toward you. Fit the carbonator into the gasket at the top of the carbonator housing, and tighten as you would a light bulb in a socket. Turn only until hand-tight; no tools are necessary. Click the back cover panel into its original closed position.

SodaStream

SodaStream

1. FILL CARBONATING BOTTLE WITH TAP WATER

Fill water to the line indicated by the iconic facet and wave design.

Pro Tip: Cold water absorbs and holds carbonation better than ambient temperature water. For best-tasting results and maximum carbonator yield, refrigerate water before carbonation.

SodaStream

2. SNAP-LOCK

Snap lock the filled bottle into the soda maker by pushing the bottle up and forward in a single motion. Unlike earlier soda makers that required a twisting gesture to connect the bottle to the machine, Source features the efficient and ergonomic Snap-Lock bottle mechanism, making carbonation even simpler and faster than ever before.

SodaStream

3. FIZZ AS YOU LIKE

The entire top surface of the Source’s carbonating block is responsive to touch. Simply press down firmly on the carbonating block and watch in amazement as CO2 whooshes into the water! Three LED lights on the front of the soda maker give you an instant feedback on the carbonation level. The carbonation levels are also represented by whistle sounds, so you can both see and hear how much your drink is being fizzed.

Pro Tip: Sparkling water and fruit flavors often taste best with lighter carbonation, while colas and New York-style seltzers are typically enjoyed with more intense bubbles. Experiment with carbonation levels until you find your perfect fizz.

SodaStream

4. UNLOCK

When you have reached the optimal carbonation level for your taste, release the carbonating block to stop CO2 from flowing into the bottle. Place two fingers beneath the carbonating block and lift it gently upwards to its original position. You will hear the airlock opening as excess pressure is released harmlessly from the bottle. Pull the bottle toward you to release the Snap-Lock bottle grip and remove your carbonated water from the soda maker.

Pro Tip: If you find that your carbonated water is not fizzy enough, you can repeat the carbonation process – for water only – to achieve stronger fizz. Drinks that have flavor added may not be re-carbonated.

SodaStream

5. FLAVOR AS YOU LIKE IT

SodaStream offers over 60 different flavor varieties to satisfy every taste and mood. Tilt the carbonated water bottle to a 45-degree angle, and pour the sodamix down along the inside wall of the bottle. Use a pre-dosed sodamix portion pack or pour your preferred flavor amount from a full-sized bottle to customize your taste experience. (Yes! You can adjust the intensity and sweetness of our drink by varying the amount of sodamix you put into the bottle. You can use a cup as your measuring devise.)

6. MIX

Place SodaStream’s signature fizz-preserving bottle cap on your soda bottle and tighten. Gently roll or shake the bottle to ensure the sodamix is thoroughly combined with the carbonated water. Allow to settle for a few moments (now would be a good time to prepare your drinking glasses and garnishes!) and carefully uncap.

Pro Tip: you may find that – after having shaken your soda – it may be extra-fizzy as you open the bottle. Try twisting the cap a quarter-turn to release pressure, and then quickly tighten again before opening all the way.

7. ENJOY

You are now ready to taste the perfect sparkling beverage, prepared expressly by YOU!

A Decent Model, April 23, 2013
This is my second SodaStream and I like this one better than the Fountain Jet that still works fine. Other reviews have exhaustively covered the positives of the SodaStream system so I won’t repeat them all here.

Positives (compared to the Fountain Jet):
– It takes a little less effort to operate
– It is a little more aesthetically pleasing

Negatives (minor):
– The LED light did not accurately determine carbonation levels and stopped coming on after a few months. It still worked as a carbonator, however. SodaStream replaced my unit at no cost to me.
– It only takes 60 liter carbonators. This is not a big problem because it was too hard to find replacements for the 130 liter carbonators at a reasonable price anyway.

Using SodaStream flavors may or may not the least expensive way to drink soda but it does reduce waste on many levels and is more healthful than soda from the popular companies. Also, the more “healthy” soda makers (with Stevia and/or Splenda) tend to cost a whole lot more than SodaStream. Weighing in environmental and health costs, I believe it saves me money.

Improvement Suggestions for Sodastream:
1. Provide carbonators at convenience stores and grocery store chains.
2. Provide a way to carbonate liquids besides water

The SodaStream works fine, but the flavors are terrible, December 23, 2013

I am only giving this 3 stars because the sodastream brand flavors taste bad (my opinion, I hate splenda taste) and this really won’t save you much money. Other than that it works fine (worthy of an "it’s okay" rating)

I got this as a gift and I use it pretty frequently. It comes with the sodastream unit, 1 bottle, a Co2 cannister, and sample pack of sodastream syrup. Its pretty easy to use, fill the bottle with water, slip it in and press down to carbonate. Thats all there is. Anyone who says it leaks either has a defective unit or has operator error. After a year of use I have experienced no leaks. Your only supposed to carbonate water in this (you pour concentrated syrup in afterwards). If you try to carbonate soda it shoots soda everywhere and makes a huge mess.

As for the sodastream flavors….. if you like the taste of splenda and artificial sugar then you will like these. Nearly all of the flavors contain splenda and I only found a few that do not. I did manage to find some cola syrup at Williams Sonoma that is made with real cane sugar (not splenda or high fructose corn syrup) and it tastes great. I also found recipes to make cola myself using sugar, citric acid, star anise and cinnamon (amazingly it tastes close to coca cola!).

I also use this for cooking. I started using carbonated water in my pancake batter since it makes thicker and fluffier pancakes.

As far as cost/money savings go. This machine makes 1 thing, carbonated water. It takes about

Pyramid power, June 18, 2014

It arrived well packaged and looks beautiful. It comes with an on/off switch. I put it on a dimmer switch to provide a range of light intensities. The point is not precise and sharp, but it still looks good; resembling an aged pyramid.

This light is fantastic!!! The rocks allow the lamp to produce a soft glow and it adds a nice and relaxing ambiance to any room. If a dimly lit area, this lamp provides the perfect amount of light.

It also creates ionization which make the air cleaner and remove ions produced by many household items and common ailments.

This could also be a very nice decorative piece above a mantle at each end.

Not only is this a great lamp, but mood and body booster too.

Looks great, but that's all it does., December 5, 2014
This review is from: [Hand Crafted] HemingWeigh Natural Himalayan Hand Crafted Crystal Rock Salt Pyramid Lamp with Wood Base (Kitchen)
This is a hard product to write a review for as it needs to be looked at from two sides.

1. Aesthetically, it's very pretty. The glow is nice yet soft. It can get pretty warm (just like any use of an incandescent bulb) but if you're looking for a soft, relaxing, dare I say comforting light, this is a great choice. Salt lamps can be beautiful.

2. As for the "ionization" effect, it's pure hokum. It won't produce enough negative ions to make a bit of difference. any effect you feel from that angle is pure placebo.

.20 worth of CO2 to make 1 liter of carbonated water. Thats cheaper than what you'll find at the grocery store. the sodastream syrups cost about and they make 12 liters, so thats about .42 per liter. So if your using Sodastream syrups 1 liter will cost you .62 (so .24 for a 2 liter) which isn't really saving you a ton of money. You don't want to buy this if your trying to save money, you'll want to buy this if you will have fun making your own soda, or you care about drinking soda without high fructose corn syrup.

Great customer service, November 12, 2013
This review is from: SodaStream Source Home Soda Maker Starter Kit, Black (Kitchen)
This device is easy to use and works great. I recently had a problem with one of the syrups I use (the all natural cane sugar ginger ale). I sent a complaint email to the Sodastream customer service department via their website... they contacted me WITHIN TWO HOURS of me sending it and replaced the bottle that had gone bad before its expiration date. FANTASTIC and attentive customer service. I highly recommend using their products.
