Inexpensive but Versatile Wireless Temperature and Humidity Device, October 16, 2013
By
Adam Beasley (Simpsonville, SC United States) - See all my reviews

Excellent device for the price. The unit provides a large screen for displaying current temperature and humidity, Min and Max temperature, Min and Max Humidity, Date and time. The unit also provides the ability to set an alarm if desired however I personally don't see any use in that but it's a free feature so no reason to complain. The screen can be set to display the inside temperature and humidity, the remote temperature and humidity and the ability to cycle between them. If additional remote sensors were used it can cycle between each of those as well. One drawback is there is no back-lighting so a light source nearby will be necessary for viewing in darker rooms. Under most circumstances the large display (roughly 5" diagonal) is very easy to read. Another small drawback is the sensors operate within the crowded 433MHz spectrum and thus the unit could see some interference in noisy environments such as an office with lots of computer equipment. In my testing I found that placing the remote on my patio and having the base unit upstairs where the signal needed to penetrate several walls didn't work out very well as the signal was lost after a short period of time, which I might add is very common with other similar devices. Range is slated to be about 300ft in open air and 100ft under most conditions. When placed along the same plane and only one wall to pass through the device worked flawlessly, which is where I planned to place the device. Setup was very straight forward, using three buttons to set the various settings and I was able to do so without accessing the manual (It's just for emergencies anyway, right?). According to the manual the batteries (4xAAA base station and 2xAAA remote, not included) should last for about a year with good reception, and it's recommended to use lithium batteries in colder environments of less that -4f. Interestingly this unit has the ability to calibrate the humidity and temperature readings which is something I haven't seen on a lower end device. I can't imagine most people needing to take advantage of this feature but it is nice to have if you are a weather nut and want to calibrate it with your weather station.

In summary it's a great deal for what you get for the price. Just don't expect it to work over large distances and through multiple walls. It's ideal, however, as a quick way to check the temperature on the patio (or another room for that matter) quickly!

You will like this weather station!, November 15, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'll echo the previous reviews. Over the years we have tried various weather stations with varying success. Usually it would take quite some time with instructions, batteries and a stopwatch in hand to get the things initialized correctly. Not this unit!! I've never come across a weather station this simple to set up. Also, all three remote sensors were well within tolerances with each other and the main unit. The sensor placed outside is quite easily transmitting at 100 feet through three walls (log walls at that). We love the large numbers and can read them from clear across the kitchen instead of having to be within a couple feet like on the old (different company) unit. You will like this weather station very much.

Excellent base station!, November 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So far, so good. This was really easy to set up. Some of the other thermometers out there require several fussy steps to ensure that the sensors are recognized. For this one you just insert batteries and are ready to go (but make sure you don't touch any of the buttons on the base until you are done adding sensors).

The temperature readings seem to be accurate and I especially like the feature of cycling through all of the sensors. It makes it really easy to get readings without having to press the channel button repeatedly. I highly recommend this! I've used a lot of different base units with sensors over the years and so far this one is at the top of the list.
