After some door-slamming entrances from kindergarten returning offspring, I bought this for the main entrance door of the house. This Deltana DSF3225U3 is a floor mounted, heavy (0.7 lb), polished, solid brass bumper well suited for entry-door duty and exuberant children.

PRICE. It is not inexpensive. At its current price (US.80, sold by MG Supply with Amazon fulfillment) is cheaper than the current MSRP but a bit more expensive than the price in some other hardware stores — since the latter will also charge for shipping, it makes sense to buy it here if your total order qualifies for free shipping and one is willing to wait for the standard shipping days. (Otherwise, for just about the same price one can get the Deltana DSF3225CR003, a polished brass model with a supposedly lifetime, PVD finish –a physical vapor deposition yielding a durable surface resistant to corrosion and tarnish– that looks like a more intense polish and helps protect hardware from moisture and salt air.)

DESIGN. The bumper is 3" tall and has a 2.5" circular base with 3 holes; it has a black, rubber-like bumper that protrudes 5/8" and does not mark (or mar) the door. It comes with suitable anchors and cross-head screws. Although the Deltana’s technical drawing specs call for the equilateral triangle formed by the holes in the base to be aligned so that the plane between the front 2 holes is PARALLEL to the bumper’s contact face (a design that should facilitate the installation with best contact with the door), this is not the case in the item I received.

INSTALLATION. In my experience there are two items to keep in mind. One is to LOCK the door when kneeling behind it to install the bumper (or use a wedge it if it can’t be locked) to avoid being hit if someone decides to open the door abruptly. The other is to place the bumper so its face matches that of the door at its stop position, which provides good stopping contact and decrease marring risk. To ensure the latter, I first drilled and inserted only the back screw and fine tuned the bumper position by rotating it until its face was exactly at the plane of the door’s stop position; then I marked the places for the front screws, rotated the bumper 180 degrees to drill the front holes, turned the bumper back in position, inserted the other screws, and tightened all three after verifying a good contact. It is a nice piece.

I looked at many options for our solid, heavy doors. These stops are not only extremely functional but aesthetically perfect with our dark wood floors. I liked them so much I have installed them throughout the house!

Heavy and well-made. Built like a tank. Finish looks great. Very obvious this is some quality stuff. Matches my other Deltana hardware. You’re paying for quality folks. Even the mounting hardware that came with is top notch. Good stuff.
