We have a smaller family room and did not want to be blasted out of the room by a gas fireplace. This is just perfect. It throws just enough heat to warm things up. I love that I can run it flame only, also. It was very easy to flush mount in our existing wall. We liked the look and the fact the blower for the heater directed the heat horizontally versus vertically. For an electric fireplace the flames are about as realistic as you can get; not quite as natural as a gas flame but close enough. We built a wall to house it. Just beautiful. I would describe the flames as modern and pleasant and not gaudy. If you think of it as a nice modern expression of a fireplace and not something to fake people out, it’s perfect. I love it. The max heat is 1200 watts and is not really going to heat up my high-ceiling space. That is okay in my application but may not work for someone, I suppose.
