The covers can be made to vent which makes heating in the microwave a snap. I use these for soups, making individual cornbread, chili and all sorts of other single serve items. You can put a whole can of soup into the mug and heat it but I prefer to make home made and freeze it in individual servings. The plastic covers are color coded to match the mugs so you can keep straight whose is whose. I’ve used CorningWare for years and was thrilled to find such an unusual and versatile set.
