25 of 26 people found the following review helpful ![]() Simple design and loud alarm, By Amazon Customer (Cincinnati) – See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Failed Circuit Alarm (Kitchen) Thankfully, this device hasn’t been called into action yet, but if it indeed works correctly then it will save us from losing a freezer full of perishables. It is a simple plug-in (with a piggy back plug so you don’t lose a receptacle)that has a battery operated alarm, and a long cord so that you can attach it to the most logical place for your setup — I have ours right at the bottom of our basement stairs. The alarm is exceptionally loud, and certainly someone will hear it if it ever goes off. The freezer is not on a dedicated circuit (as it probably should be), but rather on a shared GFCI. If it should be tripped, then this Failed Circuit Alarm will scream so we can quickly reset it. Nice invention. *UPDATE* Yes, indeed it does work and has saved us several times since I wrote the original review! 8/2009 0 20 of 22 people found the following review helpful ![]() Great insurance for your fridge, By LO (Central NJ) – See all my reviews This review is from: Failed Circuit Alarm (Kitchen) I bought this device to be warned if I lost power to my refrigerator and it works perfect. My refrigerator is plugged in to a GFI outlet that on more than one occasion has had the test button bumped in to resulting in no power to my refrigerator. This small device was “cheap insurance” in lieu of replacing an entire refrigerator worth of food. It was very simple to set up…I dropped a battery in, plugged it in, and then plugged my refrigerator in the piggy-back style plug and all was ready to work. For my installation I used a little Velcro on the back and hid it on the side of fridge where nobody can see anyway. One problem I did experience is that it immediately went in to “alarm mode” – even though the unit had power! However this mishap did afford me the opportunity to look closer at the internals of the product and from a technical standpoint it is very well constructed and above average in quality. Overall build is “commercial grade” (or close to it). The alarm is quite loud and would be great for a second fridge or freezer tucked in the basement or garage etc. I have tested it a few times and the unit continues to be ready to alert me should my refrigerator lose power again. A brief power outage also confirmed it remains ready to do it’s job. Overall – quite satisfied! 4 stars only because of the little connection issue. If you have something that should always have power and need to know when it doesn’t this is the right product for the job. 0 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful ![]() Worked as Advertised!, By Bart “Bart” (United States) – See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Failed Circuit Alarm (Kitchen) This device works as advertised. On 28 July 2009 we received some very heavy thunderstorms that tripped a ground fault circuit breaker on the circuit the garage freezer was plugged in. We could hear the alarm even though we had a DVD movie playing somewhat loudly. We had no indication that there were power problems as the lights never flickered in the main part of the house. Without this alarm, we would have gone to bed and most likely not even have noticed the unit had no power for nearly 24 hours or more. Very handy device as it prevented a recurrence of a food loss we had earlier this year due to weather. We had just stocked that freezer the day before the storms hit. We have had two losses of food stuffs over the past several years when the circuit breaker on that unit tripped. This would have been the third as we don’t often go into that freezer and the first sign that there is a problem is the water from the unit defrosting. As I mentioned above, we could hear the alarm within the house clearly enough to alert us that the power had failed on that circuit. The alarm is piercingly loud when in the same room – probably on par with a smoke alarm though the alarm on this unit is a steady tone. So, well worth the money…it basically just paid for itself the other night just a couple of weeks after we received the unit. Which by the way, was delivered as promised, on time. 0 |
