I needed a 3-way bulb, and I think that incandescent light is still the gold standard for desk lighting to get a strong, focused, warm light. I don’t even mind the "waste heat" because I frequently feel too cold. At any rate, the bulbs last a few months of near-constant use, though the 50-W filament seems to fail first, leaving the others still working. I hope they don’t prohibit this type of bulb anytime soon. 🙂

Man these lights bulbs are the BOMB!, August 21, 2014

Hell ya, you screw them into your lamp and WATCH OUT! Turn the switch and light appears…no kidding. Turn the switch again and like some kind of RR Tolkien magic the light gets brighter!!!! And, like that isn’t enough, turn the switch just one more time and you’d think the Enola Gay flew over and dropped the big one on your house. OH yea!!!

Each time it’s turned on, comes unscrewed just enough to lose it’s 3-way capability unless slightly tightened., August 24, 2014

I’m not sure about this product. I bought a set a few months ago for the floor lamp that was originally at my grandparents’ cabin (1960s/’70s era). It seemed to work fine at first, but within a few weeks it stopped working as a three-way bulb every time its turned on. It defaults to the middle section (the first click does nothing, the second click turns it on) unless the bulb is tightened a bit. Each time it’s turned on, it loses its three-way settings unless the bulb is tightened a smidge. I’m not sure if it’s the individual bulb that’s in it now, this product in general, or the lamp, but the lamp wasn’t acting this way with the previous 3-way bulb. Somehow it keeps losing the proper connection. We’ll see.
