A few months ago, I bought this percolator in a local store–needed my coffee right away! I had used drip coffee makers for years but noticed the glass carafes are thinner now than they used to be and instructions advise not to put in dishwasher, which if you disregard can give you brittle glass which could chip and cut your fingers (yes, personal experience). Also, with the drip coffee maker I got tired of coffee splattering from the basket and drips from the carafe onto the heated plate. So I wanted a coffee maker that looks clean without too much fuss, and I chose this one because the brushed stainless exterior is easy to clean, and coffee stains on the interior don’t show if you aren’t inclined to scrub them off. It has the water/coffee level window on the handle, and the glass knob is a fun retro touch. And the spout doesn’t drip! It makes good coffee very quickly and keeps it hot. You do have to unplug it when finished, or you could put it on a timer. I’m very happy with this percolator!

A couple years back I purchased a GE version of this identical model…it was fine for a while then like everybody said it would take on a mind of its own as to how it wanted to perk. Finally all it would do is heat the water and you had to pour cups of the heated water over the basket to make coffee….complete and total fail! I purchased mine at walmart because of their two year return if u kept the box and the receipt (I did both) so when I took it back…THIS model is what they had (and the girl said ok and exchanged it)! Everything about this coffee pot is identical and I mean identical to the other unit except for the cord/heating unit. The malfunctioning GE model had a three prong cord on both ends while this one has two prongs. What that means is that although the coffee pots look and feel the same…this one has a different heating unit in it that makes it perk and perk and perk! I love this coffee pot, it looks kewl and its incredibly fast compared to our old mr coffee machines that would plug up and take a half hour to make coffee. This one makes 12 cups in 12 minutes so when people are over they are always surprised that “It’s done already wow!”. As far as grounds goes…its something u seem to adapt to. I never noticed grounds when I was a kid but when I made the switch from a drip machine to a percolator again the grounds were disappointing…I would buy those paper filters you would pull the corners up over the center post of the basket so the coffee was filtered….I don’t do that anymore and none of us seem to be bothered by them anymore. 😉 I’ve had zero probs with this machine for six months now but the minute I see any problems I’ll be back to let you know.

The pot is one year old now and going strong! Works like it did when brand new so this is a good machine. 🙂

After my Presto percolator broke for the second time, I felt it was unsafe and I needed a new percolator… pronto. I searched the local stores that evening and ran across this Hamilton Beach 12 cup percolator at a great price. A bit of a risk… it seemed kind of lightweight. What a pleasant surprise when I enjoyed a great cup of coffee the next morning. I love this percolator! I grind my own coffee beans into a course consistency as required for percolators. The person who rated this item a “1” apparently didn’t understand this requirement and used fine ground beans which, of course, would fall through the grated basket into the coffee.

I enjoy watching the coffee perk through the clear top, the top locking feature is a plus, the basket has measure marks for how much ground coffee to put in based on the number of cups you are making, the bright “perking” and “ready” lights are a plus and the coffee stays hot, hot, hot. Also, it cleans up easily. We have been enjoying great tasting coffee everyday – perfectly brewed. I highly recommend this percolator.
