Not intended to be PRIMARY heat source. This is really designed to complement your main heating system, as is described on the box. This unit does not work well as the primary heat source in a large room when outside temps are frigid. When temps have been in the 30s/40s, this unit struggles to keep the room in the 60-62 degree range, even when jacked up to the max and left on for hours.

I’m assuming this would be best suited if you had propane/oil/other heat source and wanted to keep the primary thermostat around 60 or so and have the Infrared heater boost the temp to the high-60s or maybe the 70s. By itself, this unit cannot get an open room (15 x 16 or 240 sq ft) to a comfortable high 60s temp when the weather dips to the 40s or lower.

This heater might also be suited as a primary heat source for a bedroom (a room in which you can close doors to keep the heat enclosed).

At 1500 watts max output and 14 cents per kwh in my area – if left on 24×7 as the primary heat source for a room – the monthly cost would be about 5-0.

We had to find a space heater for our daughters room since it’s over the garage and isn’t climate controlled. I was so nervous about safety but this heater is awesome, fairly quiet, and has many safety options. It definitely kicks out some heat! We’ve been very pleased and talked about getting another one for our bathroom.

This heater has kept my little girl’s room nice and cozy, January 18, 2015

This heater has kept my little girl’s room nice and cozy. We live in a 3 bdrm 1300 sq ft apt and the room size is 12×12. We’ve kept it at 72-74 on L1 (low-1000w) because the 2 back bdrms were not originally insulated properly and are cold and drafty. It could easily warm a larger room that has a door in my opinion, and on the higher setting which uses 1500w. The unit is larger than I expected, but I did not read the measurement and weight info. Nice looking, mild white noise, and heats our medium sized bedroom quickly and constantly. My 3 year old said "I love my new heater mommy!".

My only issue is that the heating controls were a little confusing since the settings for hi and lo are the same buttons as the temp settings and I just couldn’t get it right, but I finally did but it was accidental. And…make sure your outlet/breaker can handle more than 15w for the hi (L2) setting, otherwise it will trip your breaker or blow a fuse. I recommend a 20-30w circuit breaker. However, I still rate it a 5! I will be purchasing the HZ980 model (black) from Amazob for my older daughter’s room soon.
