I was a little skeptical since it seems like most of the HitLight reviews here on Amazon were posted by employees of the company... Turns out these really are a GREAT product, and pretty easy to use if you're willing to put a little work into it. A few helpful things to note: * Unless you plan to use a solid 16' strip, you'll need to cut it down and use these PCB Strip Connectors to daisy-chain separate strips ([...] I also used these to splice in extension wires to route around appliances and other cabinet pieces that didn't need to be lighted. * The LEDs are warm white as promised, but the light has a slightly acidic yellow quality compared to standard incandescent or halogen light. I think they look great, but might be helpful to know going in. Overall these are a fantastic, cost-effective lighting option. They're pretty easy to figure out, but it's not a total breeze as some reviews indicate. Make sure you're comfortable doing some minor low-voltage electrical work, have electrical tape and wire strippers handy, and plan some extra time to play with the parts and figure everything out before installing (my cabinet job took about 3 hours all in). 4 stars just for the lack of instructions and the extra effort needed to figure this whole system out. Got the product. Plugged it in. Worked perfectly. Lights are bright, dimmer switch works perfectly but the power supply makes a high pitched whining noise when plugged in and not running the lights to full power. If the dimmer is used at all the whine gets louder the dimmer the lights go. Even with just the power supply plugged in and connected to nothing it has a loud audible whine. Will be contacting seller and update review later. Edit 2/26/14: Contacted seller, they said the power supply was fine and there was nothing wrong with it and that "It is apparently common among non-magnetic transformers and will not cause any long term damage to the adapter or the lights." I don't think anyone would buy this knowing there would be an audible whine coming from using it. So far still only satisfied with 2/3 of the items. Edit 2/26/14 #2: Got final response from seller telling me "There may be some smaller magnetic drivers that will work for your setup, however, the sound would still be present" so I spent on another power supply and there are 0 sounds and 0 issues with it. I love the dimmer switch. There were no instructions so struggled a bit figuring out where to cut and how to connect into the bendable connectors (the + and - are tiny and hard to see) which I purchased separately. Also, I turned the power on as I attached each new section to check it as I went along. Nice double sided tape makes it easy to attach to surface. I ran my lights on the inside of the cabinet face so they are hidden. This set is a bright white light which I prefer in a retail setting. If you want a warmer more incandescent light choose the Warm White LED Strip kit....that is what I would prefer in my home. 0 |
